Abandonment: Rosamond Homestead - Rosamond, California

Last week I photographed an abandoned homestead out in the desert near Rosamond, California. I call this place a homestead because on the property are two homes plus a few small structures that supported a business of some sort.

The main home is the older home, built probably 85 or so years ago. It's a two bedroom and one bath house maybe 1,200 square feet big. The other home is a one bedroom and one bath house that may have also been used as a business office. I'd guess that it is under 1,000 square feet and maybe 50 years old. These are all just guesses. Both homes are in great need of repair, but neither are in such poor shape that they couldn't be lived in again with some TLC.

One of the associated structures was completely torn down at some point, with only a foundation and piles of wood left. Another structure looks a little newer and was some sort of workshop or shed. There is also a large metal structure that was used as a workshop and storage.

I don't know when this homestead was abandoned, but judging by what is left, I'd say maybe in the 1990's sometime. Not everything was taken by the last occupants. Some furniture, a television, odds-and-ends, and a bunch of trash were left behind.

These photographs were captured using a Sigma DP2 Merrill camera.
