Abandonment: Improvised Desert Home - Mojave, California

Old Broken Hinge - Mojave, California
I found another abandoned home in the desert near Mojave, California. In that area there are a whole bunch of these old, forgotten houses left to succumb to nature.

This house I call the "improvised home" because it was made using a bunch of different materials, some of which may have been free (for example, an old highway sign became part of the front door). I'm guessing that the building material choices were made based on cost and not much else.

This funky place had no plumbing. There was no kitchen or bathroom. While that may seem unusual, the majority of the abandoned homes in the area had no indoor plumbing.

The construction, occupation and abandonment of this house is likely tied to the local mines, most of which are now closed. This one has been empty for at least a couple decades. I used a Nokia Lumia 1020 to capture these images.
