Photograph Your Neighborhood

A California Home - Stallion Springs, California
A couple weeks ago I published a post called Find Photographic Inspiration In Your Own Yard. Sometimes you can find great photography subjects right where you live. Today I'm expanding that scope just a little bit: your neighborhood.

You don't have to go to some far off location to find things to capture. Right around the corner from your home are all sorts of things begging you to point your camera at. Just walk through your neighborhood with your camera in hand and you'll be surprised at what you find.

This last weekend I walked around my neighborhood three different times. Twice I brought along my Nokia Lumia 1020 and once I brought along my Sigma DP2 Merrill. I captured the images that you see here in this post. I won't say which photographs came from which camera, because it doesn't matter.

When you have photographic vision the images will look like what you want them to look like. It doesn't matter if the camera cost you $100 or $700. They'll look exactly the way you envisioned them to be prior to opening the shutter.

Anyway, there are interesting scenes throughout your neighborhood. Even if you think you live in an ordinary place, there are extraordinary images that you could capture of it. Limitations improve art. Obstacles are meant to be overcome.

Photographing near where you live is a wonderful challenge. Prove to yourself that you don't have to travel far to make interesting images. A walk around the block with your camera is all that you need.
