Abandonment: Velmar House - Mojave, California

Velmar - Mojave, California
Just down the street from the abandoned "Junk House" is another forgotten home. The Velmar family apparently lived in this two bedroom place.

I'm not really sure when this house was built or when it was abandoned. Just a guess, but it may have been built in the 1960's. It was a nicer home than most of the abandoned places that I stumble across, and even included indoor plumbing (not as common in these abandoned houses as one would think). I don't believe that this house has been abandoned for more than five years.

The Velmar family had at least two young kids, a boy and a girl. I couldn't gather much else about them from what they left behind.

I always wonder what the story is behind abandoned places like this. Who lived there? Why did they leave? Why didn't they take everything with them? There are more questions than answers.
Seat Unused - Mojave, California
Many of the abandoned homes around Mojave can be tied to the mining industry. While a couple mines remain open, the majority have long since dried up. The abandonment of this home may be due to the very-close-by wind farm. It is difficult to know for sure.

I used a Sigma DP2 Merrill camera to capture these photographs. I post-processed them using Alien Skin Exposure 6 software.
